‘With its potential to go one step further than net zero and be carbon negative – removing greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere – this hydrogen technology will be crucial to achieving our climate goals.’
Energy Minister Lord Callanan
Hydrogen Transition Energy (HTE) will build a facility for the production of fuel grade green hydrogen (99.999%) for use in transport, industry, maritime, power generation and domestic uses.
The facility will be the first of it’s kind in the UK. Providing the fuel for the hard to decarbonise sectors of the UK economy, allowing them to transition away from fossil fuels, and so facilitate the move to a greener economy.
Our Solution
To help with the decarbonisation of hard to abate sectors of industry, and transport, and to reduce their carbon emissions they need a reliable source of an alternate fuel source. The technology for them to move away from fossil fuels is already available what is missing is the fuel for them to be able to transition to these technologies. Our production facility which uses a patented system to produce fuel grade green hydrogen from non-recyclable waste will give them the security of a fuel source that is (guaranteed) freely available and a cost that makes transition away from fossil fuels a financially viable way to decarbonise their operations. Government policy is already in place to force these sectors to reduce their carbon emissions, we can provide a financially viable way for this to happen and so speed up the take up of these alternate technologies.
GREEN HYDROGEN PRODUCTION
The solution - to cost-effective and large-scale green hydrogen production is the treatment of non-recyclable waste streams, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint.
Our Green hydrogen has fuel grade purity (99.999%) and can be used for everything from fuel cells to industrial processes.
INNOVATIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT
We treat non-recyclable waste that is currently sent to landfill or incinerated, such as plastics, automobile fluff, (ASR), tyres, wind turbine blades, medical and hazardous waste, contaminated wood, laminates etc. and convert it into green hydrogen with a negative carbon footprint and no hazardous residues.
COMPETITIVE PRODUCTION COST
Our patented process has a very competitive cost per kg H2 produced, normally less than 60% of other production methods for green hydrogen which has opened up new potential revenue streams for green hydrogen.
Pure green hydrogen production from a broad range of waste streams via plasma gasification.
Fully enclosed process: CO2 is captured in liquid form for commercial uses (biofuels, sustainable aviation fuel etc).
Energy efficient process: 70% of the energy needed for the process is recycled through thermal capture’
Production cost: Approx. 25% of electrolysis from water.
Plant output: 22 000 metric tonnes per year of waste converts to 4,250 metric tonnes per year of green hydrogen, FCEV quality.
HOW DOES USING HYDROGEN WORK TOWARDS NET ZERO?
Hydrogen will play a vital role in the UK’s transition to Net Zero, being included in all major scenarios.
By 2030, the UK government has an aim to generate 10 gigawatts (GW) of hydrogen, this will be the equivalent of replacing natural gas power in three million homes.
THE UK’s FIRST HYDROGEN STATEGY OUTLINES:
Hydrogen will play a vital role in the UK’s transition to Net Zero, being included in all major scenarios.
Hydrogen has the potential to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as industry, heavy transport, heating, and power.
By 2030, the UK government has an aim to generate 10 gigawatts (GW) of hydrogen, this will be the equivalent of replacing natural gas power in three million homes.
Domestic hydrogen production will need to increase exponentially – the UK Hydrogen Strategy estimates that to meet Net Zero aims by 2050, hydrogen will make up 20-35% of the UK’s final energy demand (250-460 terra watt hours a year).
