At Manston, HTE is delivering one of the UK’s first commercial waste-to-hydrogen facilities, transforming non-recyclable waste into low-carbon hydrogen while creating skilled jobs and long-term environmental value for Thanet.
This is more than an energy project. It is a cornerstone investment in the region’s clean growth economy.

The proposed facility is located in Manston, Kent (Thanet), on land adjacent to a former waste site in a non-residential setting. The site offers strong existing infrastructure connections and is ideally positioned to support regional industry and future hydrogen demand.
Using advanced plasma gasification technology, the Manston facility will convert difficult-to-recycle waste into:
Operating at extremely high temperatures, the process breaks materials down at an atomic level, enabling clean conversion with strict environmental controls.
The result: waste is diverted from landfill and incineration and repurposed into valuable low-carbon energy.
The Manston project represents a significant inward investment into Thanet. The facility and associated training hub are expected to create up to 130 direct roles, spanning engineering, science, operations, administration and technical disciplines, with opportunities from entry level to highly skilled specialists.
Hydrogen TE (Manston) Ltd is committed to building a local talent pipeline, working alongside schools, colleges and universities to develop the next generation of hydrogen and clean-energy professionals.

The Manston facility is conceived as more than an operational plant. It is planned as a carefully designed industrial campus with landscaped screening and ecological enhancements.
The development includes proposals for a training and education hub and visitor engagement opportunities — supporting transparency, learning and community connection.
Hydrogen TE (Manston) Ltd is committed to ongoing dialogue with local stakeholders to ensure the project delivers long-term shared value.
