Introduction
Twenty years ago, JCB made motorsport and engineering history when the JCB Dieselmax shattered the world diesel land speed record at a blistering 350.092 mph. Today, British engineering giant JCB and Chairman Lord Anthony Bamford have officially announced a return to the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats this August. The mission? To shatter records once again—this time powered entirely by zero-emission hydrogen combustion technology.
The Machine: Meet the JCB Hydromax
The newly unveiled JCB Hydromax is a 32-foot engineering masterpiece designed to challenge the limits of clean technology. Unlike traditional electric vehicles or fuel cells, the Hydromax focuses heavily on the potential of internal hydrogen combustion.
Raw Twin Power: The vehicle utilizes two revolutionary, production-based JCB hydrogen internal combustion engines.
Massive Output: Each engine is fine-tuned to pump out an astonishing 800 horsepower (1,600 hp combined).
Advanced Drivetrain: Power is delivered to all four wheels through a sophisticated twin-transmission and clutch system, a massive step forward from the original Dieselmax setup.
Refined Aerodynamics: Utilizing two decades of computational fluid dynamics learnings, the body has been sculpted for maximum air efficiency and high-speed stability.

The Dream Team
JCB has reassembled a powerhouse of specialized British engineering talent to back the project. While the core team consists of JCB employees, world-renowned technical partners have stepped in to optimize execution:
Prodrive managing the structural car build.
Ricardo handling the precision engine tuning.
Xtrac supplying the high-torque transmission architecture.
The project is steered by Wing Commander Andy Green OBE, the current absolute land speed record holder. Following UK validation tests, the team will target breaking the 185.5 mph hydrogen internal combustion record at the SCTA SpeedWeek in Utah.
The team aims to break the 185.5 mph hydrogen record, with Chairman Lord Bamford targeting a speed exceeding 350 mph. This initiative aligns with the expansion of JCB’s manufacturing presence in North America.
